Angela scores what it says on the can - 7 up!

-

Last week’s competition was very kindly sponsored by Allied Irish Bank, and we thank them most sincerely for their continued support for Fermoy Ladies Club. Unfortunately, Monday 11th April which was our main competition day turned out wet and miserable and conditions were far from ideal for golf. While our alternate day Sunday, remained dry for the most part those playing were met with ferociously windy conditions throughout. Despite this both winning scores were returned on Sunday.

In first place was Angela Shealy (42) who returned a great score of 7 up, a number more commonly associated with a well-known canned soft drink. It’s been back-to-back wins for Angela as she also won the Carma competition the previous week. In second was Aine O’Grady (19) who had a very good score of 4 up off her handicap.

WEEKLY COMPETITION

This week’s competition was played over two days instead of the planned three as the course was closed on Easter Sunday due to the heavy rain. As the competition was still in progress when this report was being submitted to TheAvondhu the results will be published later.

ANY LADIES INTERESTED IN TAKING UP GOLF?

Golf is a wonderful sport; it is enjoyed by people of all ages and at every level thanks to the handicap system and it also has the added benefit of a wonderful social side. The ladies committee are organising a Get into Golf programme for 2022 following on from last year’s very successful one run by Annette Twomey and Martha Brennan. You don’t need any equipment to give the sport a trial run as golf clubs and balls will be provided at the beginner’s session, all you need to bring is a pair of comfortable trainers.

If you are interested in giving this great sport a try, come along on Monday 9th May. It is planned to have two time slots, the first at 6.30pm and another at 7.30pm. For further details and to book a time slot call Martha on 086 0816416.
