Displaying their creative wares in Cappoquin
The impressive space that is the Courtroom Gallery in Cappoquin played host to a joint exhibition by Deirdre Dunne (Kilbehenny) and Leah Murphy (Old Parish) last Saturday.
Courtroom Gallery is contained within the town’s impressive Market House, which also accommodates a number of craftspeople. Friends and supporters of the two artists turned out in force for the launch of an exhibition which runs until May 14th.
Speaking at the event, entitled ‘Kaleidoscope’, co-ordinator Jane Jermyn, congratulated both women on their artistic achievements, adding that their work reflected the breadth and diversity of their lived experiences. Leah has drawn inspiration from time spent in the Italian Alps, while Laois native, Deirdre, lives a short distance from the more modest, but, no less impressive, Galty mountain range. Many of Deirdre’s subjects relate to domestic and exotic animals. Among her portraits, are some that began as a series of paintings completed during lockdown of people looking out their windows contemplating life, while others are of everyday life here and abroad.
MOST ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON
The fine weather allowed for the fine crowd to mingle and interact out of doors, where a variety of refreshments were served (the gin reception was generously sponsored by Blackwater Distillery in Ballyduff Upper).
