Stepping it out in Kilbehenny
The impressive floor of Kilbehenny Community Centre was ‘well tested’ at last Friday night’s social dancing to Declan Aungier. Declan, who is no stranger to this neck of the woods, kept the show going until almost midnight.
There was a fine crowd in attendance, many of whom are regulars on the social dancing circuit - other popular venues include The Ramble Inn, Mitchelstown; T.O. Park, Knockadea; Tallow, Araglin and Melleray. For an outlay of just €10, patrons in Kilbehenny got almost 3 hours of dancing, great music and good company.
Dancers were also able to ‘refuel’ on refreshments during the course of the evening. The raffle is another staple at these events and this was well supported.
AN IMPORTANT SOCIAL OUTLET
Thankfully, the public are starting to ‘move out’ again, which is good news for dance organisers. As well as providing much needed revenue for venues such as Kilbehenny Community Centre, these social dances allow people of all ages to mix and engage. Couples, singles and groups are always welcome and being ‘dry’ events, you don’t have to worry about the complication of who drives home afterwards. SUPPORT ALWAYS APPRECIATED
As with all these events, there’s always ‘ room for more’ and a good sized crowd always makes for a more lively and entertaining occasion. Well done to Matt and Mary O’Brien, along with their hard working team on hosting a great night of dancing.
The good news is that there’s more of the same on the way. With regard to Declan Aungier, he will be back in TheAvondhu
region shortly, as he’s pencilled in to play Araglin Hall on Saturday, 14th May.
