BARRYMORE DRAMA

Barrymore Players Drama Group will meet next Tuesday evening in Castlelyons Hall where the choice of play for the forthcoming production in October will be announced. Director Jennie O’Flaherty will give her choice of a three-act comedy to the meeting and a schedule will be drawn up for participants and supporting volunteers.

A new vetting officer will be sought at this meeting. Patrons of the group can look forward to some side-splitting moments for the Autumn season.

MARKET

Castlelyons Christmas Market was such a success last November with stall holders wanting to return again, that a date has been set for Sunday, November 27th and already many companies have booked their pitch - it may be a bigger event than last year, which had 40 stalls. Would-be stall holders should book as soon as possible to secure their pitch. This was a wonderful day out last year with most of the stalls being sold out early in the afternoon. For more information on booking call 086 2381611.

50 NEW HOUSES FOR CASTLELYONS

Castlelyons’ population will grow quiet significantly in the coming years with the development and completion of two sites in the village. Berry Hill estate will be completed with the addition of 28 semi-detached family homes of varying sizes, this development has commenced with many houses being sold from the plans, some local couples have purchased here and it is great to see them putting down roots in their own community. Along with all other purchasers, they will be most welcome to the community.

Ard na Ri estate has planning for 22 semi-detached residences, this development has not commenced as yet, but again all new residents will be most welcome to the area.

SANTA VISIT

The extremely successful Santa Visit to Castlelyons last Christmas was up for discussion again lately with some of the organisers anxious to repeat this wonderful and magical event again this year, with some changes to be considered. It was a credit to all involved and will no doubt be the same this year.

THOMAS KENT COMMEMORATION

Thomas Kent Commemoration will take place at Castlelyons Churchyard on Sunday, May 8th after 11.30am Mass. This is a non-political event organised by The IUNVA, Fermoy. This will consist of an oration, wreath laying ceremony, Last Post (bugle call) and prayers. All are welcome to attend.

MEETING

Castlelyons Community Council Steering Committee will be meeting next Wednesday evening at 8pm to discuss and arrange the forthcoming election of the next Community Council. There is a lot of pre-election work involved to run a proper election, but it will be done and a new Community Council in place this summer. More on this shortly.

CASTLELYONS CEMETERY MASS

For the first time ever Fr. Gerry Coleman will celebrate Mass in Castlelyons cemetery on Friday, June 17th (weather permitting). This will be a first and it will be eagerly looked forward to by so many families who have family members buried in both the old and new cemeteries. The cemetery community group will have the place looking its best for the occasion, along with the input of the many families who are regular visitors here.

TRAFFIC CALMING

Traffic calming will be in place in the coming months at Castlelyons National School (Conna side) and Berry Hill. This was agreed some months back with Castlelyons National School (who have made a considerable contribution), Cork County Co. and Castlelyons Community Council.

WEED CONTROL

Some areas around the villages, approach roads and Tidy Towns areas, are in need of weeding. This will need to be a voluntary effort by residents in these areas. Those interested in Tidy Towns and the appearance of all our areas, could you give a little time to an area near you please?
