Macra na Feirme welcomes new chief executive

Macra na Feirme is happy to welcome Michael Curran to the role of Chief Executive of the organisati­on commencing the role next week.

Mick Curran is a native of Waterville in South Kerry, he comes from a small farming background. In 1993, Mick Joined the Irish Defence Forces where he remained over the next 24 years serving in a variety of roles both at home and on three occasions overseas with the UN in Lebanon and Liberia. Mick began his role as CEO of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) in 2017. Whilst leading CILT, Mick worked with industry and academia alike to develop three QQI accredited programs in logistics and supply chain.

“I am delighted to have been chosen to lead Macra na Feirme, there exists within Macra an exceptiona­lly strong staff team combined with a committed Board and exceptiona­l volunteers, I look forward to working alongside all within Macra to contribute to the future of rural Ireland and all who live there,” said Mick Curran.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mick onboard and are looking forward to working with him on developing our new strategy and setting the direction for our organisati­on for years to come. Mick’s depth of experience across many areas will be of huge benefit to Macra na Feirme as we move forward” said John Keane National President.

The Board of Macra na Feirme would like to thank Derrie Dillon for filling the role of interim CEO over the past number of months. Derrie Dillon is a long time staff member of Macra na Feirme and has provided a critical leadership function while Macra engaged in its CEO search.

“We are grateful to Derrie for taking on the role of CEO over the last number of months and appreciate his leadership. Derrie has provided stability and stewardshi­p of the organisati­on during this period which has kept our organisati­on stable and strong” said Andrew Doyle, Board Chairman.

“Derrie has been an integral part of the team in Macra for many years and his leadership and organisati­onal knowledge have been invaluable and will remain so into the future as he plays a vital role in the developmen­t and progressio­n of Macra,” said John Keane.

Macra na Feirme welcomes Mick Curran to the team and look forward to developing and growing the organisati­on into the future under the stewardshi­p of the team and its volunteers.
