ALBERT CONBOYNE FOUNDERS CUP Kilreen Celtic 0 Fermoy A U12 1

Fermoy played away to Kilreen Celtic on Thursday evening for their first match of the U12 Albert Conboyne Founders Cup. Fermoy travelled in big numbers.

Fermoy started strongly with forward pressure from the start through Ryan McAuliffe and Jaylany de Costa. Darragh O’Callaghan and Oisin Daly maintained a strong hold on defence making sure of every tackle. Lucas Alvez Barbosa and Connor Hill created some great opportunities for the forwards with their play up the wings. Fermoy had a couple of chances on goal with Max O’Connor, Jaylany and Sean O’Hagan all having shots on target.

Kilreen Celtic made a break down the field following a Fermoy corner kick, but our keeper David Morrisson wasn’t to be beaten on this occasion. Kilreen put the challenge up to Fermoy with their very physical players, but Fermoy matched them. Fermoy earned a free kick in their own half, Lucas took the free, sent it straight to the feet of Jaylany who made a wonderful pass to Max Jasek who took on two players and had a rocket of a shot to the back of the net that no keeper would have got a hand to, putting his team in the lead. 0-1 to Fermoy. Fermoy had a few more chances in the first half with John Cahill unlucky to send the ball just wide of the post. Half time 0-1 to Fermoy.

The boys brought the same intensity into the second half, with James O’Neill and John Cahill pressing forward from the kick off. Redmond Crowley made some great clearances in defence, sending the ball up to the forward line. Max O’Connor put in a great shift, covering every blade of grass on the pitch. Cian Coughlan and his trusty left foot thwarted Kilreen’s attempts to go on the offensive. The boys showed some brilliant teamwork and great passing to create numerous chances at goal. Sean Gowan provided great cover in defence, chasing down the opposition and winning ball.

With the game nearing full-time, Dallen O’Neill sent a brilliant through ball to Sean O’Hagan who was unlucky not to score. Fermoy came away with 1-0 win against a very tough team. Well done everyone!
