The Avondhu

Interclub matches well underway

-

Last Saturday saw our Mary McKenna Team play Cork Golf Club in very tough conditions. Our ladies battled hard but Cork had home advantage and won the first leg 4/1. Saturday next at 2pm we will play the second leg where hopefully home advantage will work in our favour and we can make up the deficit. Best of luck to managers Vera Santry and Kathleen O’Regan and all the team who we know will give it their very best next Saturday.

On Sunday our Challenge Cup team played East Cork at home unfortunately local knowledge came up against strong opposition and we were giving shots in all five matches. Our ladies put up a great fight and we thank each and every one of the team and their caddies who gave their time so willingly to the club.

Commiserations to you all, you battled hard against a club who are notoriously difficult to beat home or away. Our thanks also to team managers Rita Mulvihill and Mary Barry for all your work with the team.

ANY LADIES INTERESTED IN TAKING UP GOLF?

Golf is a wonderful sport; it is enjoyed by people of all ages and at every level thanks to the handicap system and it also has the added benefit of a wonderful social side. The ladies committee are organising a Get into Golf programme for 2022 following on from last year’s very successful one run by Annette Twomey and Martha Brennan. You don’t need any equipment to give the sport a trial run as golf clubs and balls will be provided at the beginners session, all you need to bring is a pair of comfortable trainers. If you are interested in giving this great sport a try come along on Monday, 9th May. It is planned to have two time slots, the first at 6.30pm and another at 7.30pm. For further details and to book a time slot call Martha on 086 0816416.
