County Senior victory for Larry
The county outdoor Junior, Senior and Masters Track and Field Competition was hosted by Tipperary athletics last Sunday in Templemore. Our seasoned field master Larry O’Grady took on three field events in this competition
Larry opted to throw in the senior section of theses championship therefore competing with heavier implements and against the youth generation. It was to be a momentous day for Larry as he finished 4th in senior discus, took a bronze medal in the senior shot putt and the one he has been waiting 19 years to claim a PB of 5 metre 36 cm in the 56 pound weight for distance where he also walked away with the silver medal.
BALLYNEALE 5K
Back on the 2022 race calendar was the 3 counties challenge sponsored by outfield sports and hosted by the Carrick On Suir AC Road runners. The 3 counties challenge is a four race series covering the counties of Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny. Race one was held on Friday night last in Ballyneale, Co Tipperary and the club colours were represented on the body of Willie O’Donoghue. A good night it was to be for Willie and the club as Willie crossed the finish line taking a category win.
ARDERIN IMRA
Arderin Clear Lake Loop located at Clear Lake, Gorteenameale, Co. Laois was the point of disembarkation for Aoife Courtney, Jason Collins and Dariusz Gazdowicz on Sunday morning last. Arderin is a mountain on the border between Laois and Offaly in Ireland. With a height of 527 metres it is the highest point in the Slieve Bloom Mountains, and is both the highest point in County Laois and County Offaly. The 13.5 kilometre race route started below the ‘steep bank’ at Glendine Gap. Heading directly to Arderin cairn before a speedy open mountain descent which continued through the woods where it crossed the road to pick up on the old Slieve Bloom Way until the path reached Clear Lake. Here was some rough ground which lead back to another speedy open mountain downhill section to complete the loop. A testing but enjoyable run in the Slieve Blooms for Aoife, Jason and Dariusz.
