Waterford fall just short after Trojan effort

-

The reigning All Ireland champions were made to work all the way to the bitter end in this very enjoyable contest at the Gaelic Grounds last Saturday evening.

Waterford got off to a dream start with two Stephen Bennett frees and a point from Dessie Hutchinson. Mikey Kiely’s strike for goal was blocked by Barry Nash and Limerick nerves settled after that with Aaron Gillane steadying the ship with points from frees and two sublime efforts from midfield by Diarmuid Byrnes. Austin Gleeson pushed the lead back to four before Gillane and O’Neill tied the game at 10 points apiece.

Limerick were beginning to assert themselves now, going into the break 14 points to 13 up. Alarm bells began to ring on the resumption and worryingly for Liam Cahill, Waterford were four points behind with Limerick looking more and more dominant as the game wore on. A goal was needed and not one but two arrived in quick succession with Stephen Bennett and Jack Prendergast rattling the Treaty net.

The game was going down to the wire but Limerick did what Limerick do best, did not panic and reasserted themselves to run out three point winners in the end.

Liam Cahill admitted to having mixed emotions after the game and felt that Waterford maybe could have gotten something out of this match. However, we are still very much in contention and looking forward to our next outing against Cork on May 17th. Well done to Lismore players, Jack Prendergast, Iarlaith and Carthrach Daly.

LISMORE U7S AT WIT

The U7s played 3 fantastic games of football in WIT sports arena on Saturday morning. The lads really enjoyed playing football as a change from the small ball. We played Brickey Rangers, Kilrossanty and Portlaw. Well done boys!

LISMORE GAA “TEAM” UP WITH LISMORE TIDY TOWNS

Lismore GAA Juvenile Club got the litter pickers out last Friday to help out Lismore Tidy Towns. It is a brilliant initiative to promote awareness on the damage that casual littering does to the environment. The boys took off up the Green Road and left that beautiful area spick and span. On arrival at the GAA grounds they were treated to a selection of sandwiches and drinks after all their hard work. Well done to all!
