Cork made to fight hard

-

SUBWAY INTERLEAGUE U12 WW/EC League 0 Cork SL 4

The result here saw Cork run out winners but the WW/EC league made them fight all the way for the result. The first 20 minutes here saw our league put it up to Cork. The WW/EC keeper Cummins did bring off two great saves in this opening 20 minutes.

Cork opened the scoring in the 20th minute and increased their lead to two goals three minutes later from the penalty spot. Then with the last kick of the first half Cork grabbed a third. This was the score at the break.

The second half saw our league play with the strong breeze and after just five minutes the crossbar rescued Cork when Conlon’s effort looked a certain goal. The Cork keeper brought off a great save late in the game as the WW/EC tried to get back in the game. It was not to be and with time running out Cork scored the only goal of the second half.

All managers are asked to have the results phone number so that they can text in half-time and full-time scores along with their teams’ scorers and a brief report if they wish. Both sides must phone in with the information, but it is the home side who is responsible for the result. Again, please text information to this phone number 083-0890833.

U11, U10, U9, U8 and Academy fixtures are up on league web-site and clubs can arrange times that suit for these games between team managers. Please ensure fair play and even game time for all the boys and girls taking part. It is about learning, having fun and enjoyment with your friends.

Fixture disruption continues as Covid-19 again raised its head this week with a number of fixtures having to be postponed. With the evenings now in play clubs are asked to keep the fixture secretary informed of any changes/ walkovers as the fixture secretary does not have a crystal ball so if there is Confirmation, Communion etc coming up, let us know in advance so that we can try to work around it. With Easter Holidays also in play a number of games are down for decision on the Bank Holiday Monday. The Friendship Cup between clubs from South Tipperary and the WW/EC is also underway so the best of luck to all clubs in their remaining fixtures.

It was very much a case of girl power as Ballybridge got the better of Clashmore Ramblers who again had Callum Leel on target while Emily Buckley, Rebecca Hurley and Orla McCarthy got the goals for the home side. Who are now through to a meeting with Ballyduff Rovers.

Mogeely 6 Brideview United 0

Mogeely were convincing winners against an understrength Brideview side, but still the home side were very impressive and chalked up a fine win. First half goals from Conor Hennessy (2) and Max Smiddy had Mogeely well on top at half-time. Smiddy added his second while Cillian Harrington and Daniel Murray completed the scoring for the home side who advance to the semi-final. Cappoquin/Railway v Ardmore Danes Field Monday night.

Kilworth Celtic 0 Ballyduff Rovers 0, Ballyduff Rovers win 3-1 on pens

Two of the strongest teams in the league produced a cracking contest in Sheila Flynn Park where neither side managed to find the net in normal time as both keepers and defenders were in splendid form. The closest we came to a goal was a shot from distance by Shay Feeney from Ballyduff Rovers that hit the crossbar. In extra time it was still scoreless but with five minutes remaining Kilworth Celtic won a penalty kick and a great chance to go through. Ballyduff keeper Cori Slattery guessed the right way and pulled off a great save to keep his side alive. Neither side could break the deadlock but in the penalty shoot-out Ballyduff Rovers kept their cool as Slattery saved a further three penalties while Ryan Molumphy, Jamie Alcock and Shay Feeney, scored for the visitors to put them into the semi-final where they will meet Ballybridge United.

U14 LEAGUE DIVISION 1

Darragh Ryan was once again in fine scoring form as he netted five for Clashmore Ramblers with Cormac Mooney, Max Kehoe and Daragh Kelleher getting the other goals as Ramblers finish runner up behind Brideview United in this division.

Cappoquin/Railway 0 Mogeely 2

A goal in either half from Dominic Durich and Daragh Roynane was enough to give the visitors the win at Danes Field in Cappoquin.
