Impressive upgrade at Kilworth Tennis Club
Tennis continues to thrive in Kilworth - helped in no small way by the efforts of steadfast volunteers. Good facilities are a massive plus and to this end, Kilworth Tennis Club have upgraded the surfaces of both courts. Following the efforts of contractors, Court Care Ireland, the club now has superb playing surfaces. For the record, the material used was ‘13mm Advantage Pro Tiger Turf’ (in Flushing Meadows blue). Much appreciated financial assistance for the project came via Avondhu Blackwater Partnership and Cork County Council, whose public representatives were very supportive.
Needless to say, members are delighted with the ultra professional finish, with one or two even claiming that it has improved their serve, done wonders for their forehand and radically enhanced their backhand - this hasn’t been independently verified.
At any rate, everyone is thrilled with the finished product and visitors are leaving impressed by the new look.
CLUB ON A STRONG FOOTING
Kilworth has a long association (over 100 years) with a sport that began as ‘lawn’ tennis; back then, it was the preserve of the gentry and army officers. Over the decades, these ‘class’ distinctions have faded and tennis is now a game for the masses, as well as for all ages. Boasting a growing juvenile membership and on a strong financial footing, things are looking up for Kilworth Tennis Club, which is situated on land owned by Kilworth Community Council.
