Aislinn recipient of Austrian Embassy award

German teacher at Loreto Secondary School Fermoy, Aislinn Barry was awarded a prize last Thursday from the Austrian-Irish Society at the Austrian Embassy, located on Ailesbury Road, Dublin.

She was awarded the Catriona Dowling Perpetual Trophy in recognitio­n of her dedication to German teaching and the promotion of Austrian culture in the classroom setting.

The German Department in Loreto Fermoy were singled out for having the most entries to this year’s Austrian essay competitio­n, with an outstandin­g 120 entries.

Overall, 420 entries to the competitio­n were received.

Past students Sophia Lucey and Gormfhlait­h Shiochain Ní Bheolain were prize winners in 2021 and 2019 respective­ly. While German teacher Laura Brogan was also recognised in 2020 for her diligence and dedication.
