SUSI is open for student grant applications

SUSI, the national grant awarding authority, is now open for new student grant applications for academic year 2022/23. Students are advised to apply early as a high number of applications are expected over the coming months.

To date, SUSI has received over 22,000 renewal applications having opened for renewal applications on 10 March. SUSI aims to have a decision with as many applicants as possible before the start of the new academic year and applications received on or before the priority processing dates will receive priority assessment. The priority processing dates are 9 June for renewal applications and 7 July for new applications.

Eleanor Murphy, SUSI’s Communications and Customer Services Manager issued advise for students.

“SUSI is now accepting applications for student funding for academic year 2022/23. If you’re planning on attending further or higher education in the next academic year, logon to www.susi.ie and check out our Eligibility Reckoner. This is a quick and easy way to see if you might be eligible for funding.

“Students considering applying for funding should take a look at the new income thresholds many of which have increased by €1,000 this year. For example, the income threshold for the band 1 full maintenance rate, has increased from €39,875 to €40,875 where there are less than four dependent children in the household.

All eligible students will also see the annual maintenance grant increase by €200 and the qualifying distance for the higher ‘non-adjacent’ maintenance rate will decrease to 30km from 45km.

“Be sure to submit your application before the priority processing dates to receive priority assessment. And don’t forget, if you received funding in academic year 2021/22 and are progressing to the next year of your course, you must submit a renewal application.”

Students do not need to have their Leaving Cert results or to have accepted a course to apply. They can simply supply the details of the course they hope to study and update their course choice online at a later date.
