TY activities at Coláiste Fionnchua, Mitchelstown
Transition Year students had a busy week this week in Coláiste Fionnchua, taking part in a number of activities.
First on the agenda was the Waterford Greenway, where they took to their bikes to tackle the 25km journey from Kilmacthomas to Dungarvan. Blessed with fine weather, our cyclists took in all that the Greenway has to offer, passing viaducts, bridges and a 400m tunnel, as well as the beautiful sights along the River Suir.
TY and LCA students also enjoyed a brilliant workshop from Forensic Fun, where students were introduced to the world of forensic science. Together, students sifted through layers of evidence, fingerprints, gunshot residence, ballistic reports and then used their critical thinking skills to try and figure out who assassinated American President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Having analysed all the evidence at hand they came to the conclusion that the most likely suspect was his vice-president, Lyndon B. Johnson.
Whether or not they solved the case is uncertain, but they certainly learned a huge amount about forensics. A huge thank you to Alison for such an engaging workshop.
DAIRYGOLD VISIT
5th Year Business students met with Mr. Sean O’Donovan, Talent Acquisition Specialist Dairygold. Seán facilitated a workshop on interview skills with our students, walking them through different areas of the interview. During the session, he really engaged with the students and roleplayed two interviews highlighting the do’s and don’ts in an interview. Seán also answered many questions from our students, leaving them with great insight into what is needed in an interview.
Feedback was extremely positive and our students felt they learned some great life skills. Thank you to Mr. Sean O’Donovan and Dairygold for being so generous in sharing their time and expertise.
