KNOCKLONG HISTORY SEMINAR

The Winding Road from the Truce up to the Civil War

Knocklong History will host a seminar that will take an in-depth look at the reaction to the Truce and the Treaty prior to the Civil War in the counties of Waterford, Kerry, Tipperary, Clare and Limerick. The seminar will be held on Saturday, May 14 at 10.30am in Knocklong Community Hall in County Limerick.

Dr Padraig O’Ruairc will speak about County Clare. Dr O’Ruairc is author of ‘Truce: Murder, Myth and the Last Days of the Irish War of Independen­ce’ and ‘Blood on the Banner.’ Dr Pat McCarthy will represent County Waterford and is the author of the comprehens­ive account of the war of Independen­ce in Waterford; ‘Waterford: The Irish Revolution 1912-23.’ Dr Tim Horgan, author of ‘Dying for the Cause’ and ‘Fighting for the Cause: Kerry’s Republican Fighters’ will speak about County Kerry.

John Flannery, president of the Ormond Historical Society and a member of the Decade of Revolution Group, and a presenter on various podcasts and historical seminars, will speak about County Tipperary. Finally, Tom Toomey, author of ‘The War of Independen­ce in Limerick 191221’ will present on County Limerick.

This event will take place in front of a live audience for the first time in three years, and it will also be live streamed on Facebook with a recording available on the Knocklong History facebook page. Knocklong History seminars from 2021 and 2020 are available to view on social media including the 2021 seminar ‘The Hard Road to The Truce’. That video attracted 2,300 views, and the funding for the live streaming and recording was provided by the Decade of Commemorat­ions in Limerick City and County Council Library.

All are welcome on Saturday, 14th May at 10.30 in Knocklong Community Hall, entry fee €5.
