GREEN SCHOOL!

-

This year in Bishop Murphy memorial school we are working towards our Travel flag. It will be our 4th flag. In our school we currently have Green Flags for energy, waste and water. Our Green Schools Committee was established early in the year. We have had some great events so far.

Some highlights include an SEAI workshop where we learned all about sustainable energy. The children had a discussion about climate change, greenhouse gasses, rising water and what this means for Ireland. Our Green schools team also conducted a speed survey outside of school where they tracked traffic to investigate how safe the road outside our school is.

A Walkability audit explored how many pupils walk to school and we are delighted to commence WOW (Walk on Wednesday) this week! WOW will encourage pupils, where possible, to reduce their carbon footprint and get active by walking to school.

Our Bike shed is an excellent facility that we have in school and as the days get brighter and warmer it’s excellent to see so many pupils cycling too. Though, with cycling there can be some danger so we are looking forward to the cycle safety course on Friday, 6th May to ensure pupils can remain safe coming to school.
