Great win for Liam O’Brien in Kanturk three-day

-

Young Fermoy cyclist Liam O’Brien had a great win in the Kanturk 3-day stage race over the bank holiday weekend. Liam was riding as part of the Munster junior team and, as a first year junior, was competing against a strong field of senior cyclists.

This didn’t deter Liam however. He was narrowly beaten into second place on the first stage, but on the second stage, a time trial, he was a clear winner and this put him into the yellow jersey as race leader.

He then successfully defended his race lead over the remaining stages 3 and 4 to claim a great victory overall. Another great achievement for Liam in his first year racing against the senior cyclists. We will be looking forward to many more as the season goes on.

Younger brother Shane also had a successful weekend in the U13 category, finishing first U13 on 2 of his 3 stages to claim the jersey as overall winner of the U13 grade.

Newcomer Dean Sheridan, riding in his first stage race, successfully completed two days of racing in the U12 race, in only his second road race.
