County football on the horizon

-

The first ‘big test’ of the season for our players is the first round of this year’s Bon Secours Junior B Football Championship v Clann an Gael (Timoleague) - scheduled to take place in Kilmurry on Sunday, 15th May. Having won last year’s Junior C County Championship, this represents a step up for our boys.

Those overseeing the ‘ big ball’ side of things remains unchanged from 12 months ago - head coach, Denis Twomey, assisted by Peter O’Loughlin, Kevin Fitzgerald, Alan Hegarty, Sean Allen and James Kearney (Propogue). In advance of this game, we’re down to play Clyda Rovers in the Div. 2 football league, however, we don’t have exact details on this.

While things didn’t go our way in Glanworth last Friday night, there were still encouraging signs and with the necessary fine tuning, we should be in good shape for our clash with the West Cork representatives. There was a players’ meeting last Tuesday night and the message from this was very positive.

From a club perspective, a first round county win would free us up considerably with regard to forthcoming fixtures. That being said, the Junior B county football is very competitive with some new clubs taking their chances.

TICKETS CIRCULATED FOR GAA NATIONAL DRAW

The club are now ‘pushing’ the GAA National Draw, where first prize is a Dacia Duster car - second prize is €2,000 in cash. Tickets cost €10, with the club retaining this amount in full - all prizes are sponsored by Croke Park. This represents a great chance for the club to ‘make a few quid’ and we would encourage everyone to sell their allocation.
