Mitchelsto­wn secured the points in this entertaini­ng Cork Credit Unions Div 2 football league played at Mitchelsto­wn on Friday night last. It was a pulsating opening quarter in which the visitors raised the first white flag but points from Sheehan and Magee followed by a Dineen goal and 1-1 from Aghabullog­ue inside the opening 8 minutes left the score 1-02 each.

Both teams exchanged points before a fruitful 10 minutes saw Mitchelsto­wn score five points without reply. The visitors replied with three points before Jim Sheehan raised the white flag to leave the half-time score 1-09 to 1-06. Both sides gave it their all in the second half but points from English, Sheehan, Magee and Dineen saw Town hold out for a two point win.

U19 COUNTY LEAGUE Mitchelsto­wn 1-10 Kilshannig 2-10

Mitchelsto­wn played the final game in the U19 league on Wednesday, April 27th going under to Kilshannig on the above scoreline. In an evenly matched contest both teams had scores early on with Mitchelsto­wn having points from S Kenneally, C

McNamara, D Sheehan, L Murphy and R Donegan. Kilshannig dominated the closing stages of the first half, a C McNamara point followed by A O’Grady goal left the half-time score 1-06 to 1-05 in favour of town. The second half saw sides exchange points but a Kilshannig goal 10 minutes in to the half proved to be the difference between the sides. Mitchelsto­wn tagged on points from B Baker, K Cotter and L Murphy but just came up short on the night.
