Unfortunate defeat
Kilworth LGFA played their second county league division six game at home on a May bank holiday Monday in what was a well prepared pitch and a sunny day to go with it.
Having already won their first game away to Cloyne and having a number of preparation challenge matches under their belts the girls began this game on a very positive note, an appointed free from captain Laura Sheehan settling Kilworth into a nice rhythm with further points from Carla Niamh and Emma Clancy with great passing moves in a period of time where Kilworth all struggled to get on the scoreboard. A cracker of a goal from Laura added to the scoreline before Kilworth all responded.
An injury to Ellen Murphy had an unsettling effect and the remainder of the first half saw Youghal score 1-3 without reply to leave just a point in it at half-time.
Positional switches for the second half with Laura also out injured had an immediate response early on and two quick points from Carly and Emma H had us 3 up however that was as good as it got. Despite the girls’ best efforts Youghal came more and more into the game and a goal and 3 points sealed a well-deserved win for them. Final score Youghal LGFA 2-7 Kilworth LGFA 1-6.
What was a tough match and a disappointing loss for the girls which will no doubt only push them on and they will come back stronger and with more grit and determination.
Next up is Naomh Fionn Barra away in a couple of weeks in the third game of the county league.
