Fermoy go down as Charlevill­e maintain unbeaten run

Charlevill­e 2-8 Fermoy 1-7 This latest win for Charlevill­e in the Cavanagh’s of Fermoy Division 1 FL on Thursday evening last in Fermoy, ensures them a place in the semi-finals.

Fermoy did well all through but a second goal for the winners proved decisive. The home side had early points by Brian Shanahan and Alan O’Connor (free). Good play by Darren Casey and Darren Butler led to an opening point by Jack Doyle. Darren Butler pointed a free before Charlevill­e edged ahead again when Danny Flynn and Simon Gleeson worked well for Conor Buckley, who kicked over from distance. Buckley was also involved in placing Danny Flynn for a fine point 0-4 to 0-2.

Alan O’Connor pointed for Fermoy in the 26th minute. Charlevill­e had their first goal in the closing moments of the first half when Danny Flynn and Mark Kavanagh combined for Darren Butler who netted. At half-time Charlevill­e led 1-5 to 0-4.

Jake Carr and Darren Butler exchanged a point on the resumption. Midway through the half Darren Casey, Danny Flynn and Mark Kavanagh were all involved in placing the inrushing Casey who goaled and opened up a lead of 2-6 to 0-6.

Fermoy then had a goal by Jake Carr. However, the overall balance and teamwork of the Rathluirc side saw them hold out for a close victory.
