‘F1 in Schools’ national final for Colman’s students
Best of luck to St Colman’s students who are competing in the National F1 in Schools final this Friday, 13th May in Salthill, Galway.
The Fermoy secondary school team, comprising of Colm Clancy, Darragh Casey, Fionn O’Connell, Jamie Dineen, Marc Callanan and Quentin Joyce, will compete against 53 other teams with the top four reaching the World F1 in Schools Final which will be held in Singapore this October.
F1 in Schools is the fastest, most exciting STEM competition for secondary school students! Through this competition students learn how to design, race and build their very own miniature Formula 1 car.
The St Colman’s Fermoy team has showed plenty of initiative and hard work and are delighted now to represent the school at a national level. They have created approximately twenty Engineering and Enterprise portfolios and have created their miniature gas cylindered car.
The team will be involved in three interviews and presentations throughout the day of the finals. They will then race their custom made gas cylindered car down a 20 metre track at a speed of 20 metres per second.
Student Jamie Dineen is eager to impress in Galway, “The experience we have all gained in STEM has been outstanding. This project will benefit us greatly in our future careers.”
Quentin Joyce wanted to show his appreciation for the community support that the team has received in the last year.
“We would like to thank our amazing sponsors: Clarke Analytics, Spar, Lisnabrin and Fermoy Print and Design who have supported us throughout the competition. We have worked immensely hard to make sure we put ourselves in the best position to succeed in the National final.”
These boys are a very “driven” bunch and we wish them all the best!
