“I got such a warm welcome the first time in Fermoy that I wanted to come back again” - Jake Carter

Singer- songwriter Jake Carter said he is looking forward to taking to the Palace Theatre in Fermoy with his band this weekend, as a part of his upcoming tour.

According to the musician, this will be his first time properly gigging in Fermoy with a full band.

“I was in Fermoy not so long ago when I was a judge at the All-Ireland Secondary Schools Drama Final. That was actually my first time in the theatre there and I got talking to Kieran Barry (manager at Fermoy Community Youth Centre) about what a lovely theatre they have there. I got such a warm welcome the first time that I wanted to come back again,” he said.

When asked how local venues such as the Palace in Fermoy compare to some of the bigger stages, such as that of the Olympia where he starred as Aladdin in the panto, he said it could be more ‘daunting’.

“It’s probably a little more daunting. But it’s a lovely venue, and I love that as well because you really feel like you’re in with the crowd. The reason I’m doing it in the Palace Theatre in Fermoy is because it’s such a lovely theatre and it deserves to be used a lot more. Hopefully, this will be the first of many many gigs to come in the theatre,” Jake added.

SCHOOLS - ‘WE GOT A GREAT REACTION’

On Thursday last, Jake took to the local schools in Mitchelstown, Fermoy and Lismore to meet local fans, where students had the opportunity to do a questions and answers session with the musician.

“I love going around and doing Q&As with them and chatting to them about the music industry and the television industry. It’s a great way of meeting new people.

“Obviously with Covid, we haven’t been able to do that over the last couple of years, so this is the first time we were able to do that again. It was great, we got a great reaction, screaming kids singing along and getting a load of pictures after. It was a great day to be honest,” he said.

On Friday, April 29, Jake released a brand new single, ‘ Who We Are’ which is to feature among the setlist for the Fermoy gig on Saturday, which is just one of many new features to his performance.

“I have a brand new setlist for this gig because this is one of the first tour dates of the new year. We have some brand new songs on it with some of the older songs and some of my favourite covers.

“It will be 50% original stuff and 50% covers of different pop songs that I like from over the years,” Jake told The Avondhu.

LOCKDOWN INSPIRATION

Taking on a different tone, his latest single was produced by Wayne Farrell and mastered by Marcin Ciszczon. Full of meaningful lyrics, the song was written by Jake and Irish songwriter Megan O’Neill over Zoom during the pandemic and focuses on the impact that Covid19 and successive lockdowns have had, however, Jake notes that the track is a ‘one-off’ as he hopes to return to the pop style he is known for in future music.

“We have an EP coming out at the end of the year and it’s very much organic pop songs so it will be a little bit like the older stuff. ‘Who We Are’ is a one-off to be honest. It’s a track that we wrote during lockdown and it’s just something that really stuck with me. I decided to put it out there to see what people think. I think the lyrics of the song mean a lot to me. It speaks a lot about the lockdown that we had in the world,” he said.

Jake Carter is set to play the Palace Theatre Fermoy, located at Fermoy Community Youth Centre, this weekend on Saturday, May 14, with local musician Mike Roche as support. Tickets can be purchased online at www. gr8events.ie
