Ballyhooly Lodge hits the market
A landmark building in Ballyhooly has hit the market with full planning permission allowing the new owner to recreate the property.
The Ballyhooly Lodge at Castleblagh, a nine-bedroom former public house, is currently up for sale guiding at €475,000.
Sitting on a crossroads overlooking the Blackwater River and Ballyhooly Castle, the lodge was built as a public house circa 1930 on the burnt-out ruins of a collection of buildings dating as far back as the 1800s. It is one of few purpose-built early twentieth-century public houses in the region, according to the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.
During the mid to late twentieth century, it is understood that the building was substantially added to so it could expand and change with the building function of a B&B, hostel, pub and restaurant.
Planning permission was granted in 2021 for the building to be redeveloped and subdivided.
Submitted to Cork County Council in June, the planning application sought to subdivide one dwellinghouse into three, to partially demolish a rear single story extension and for renovations and alterations to layout plans and elevations. The subdivision would see two new 3-bed houses and one 4-bed house provided for.
Currently, the property features a 9.81m x 6.13m reception room which originally served as a bar area, an 8.06 x 6.45 reception hall that originally served as a dance floor area, three living rooms, two kitchen and dining areas as well as an original commercial kitchen, nine bedrooms, eight bathrooms and various other rooms.
