Lights, camera, action! “It’s all show” at Mitchelstown Musical Society!

-

No more than most community organisations and particularly those in the arts and entertainment sector, the activities of Mitchelstown Musical Society ground to a virtual halt during the pandemic.

This Society is now delighted to be back on track, planning its next ventures. The AGM has been held and the following elected officers and committee will guide this vibrant group, through the next year - president Seanie Chamberlain, honorary life members - Therese Horgan and Jim Flynn; chairperson Mary O’Callaghan, vice-chairperson Tom O’Donoghue, treasurer William Cahill, assistant treasurer Mary Carolan, secretary Ben Lynch, assistant secretary James Sherlock, PRO Bernie Quinn, assistant PRO Breda Lynch. Committee members - Pat Lambe, Pamela O’Regan, Brian Roche, Therese Horgan, Mary Dennehy and Lianne O’Callaghan.

Mitchelstown Musical Society is now delighted to announce that its Spring 2023 performances will take place in Mitchelstown Community Leisure Centre.

Recently, the group visited the Centre and were really impressed with the state-of-the-art facilities available there. The Society commends all who worked tirelessly, that Mitchelstown can now boast a venue which is comparable to the best in Munster.

Speaking to TheA vondhu this week, Mary O’Callaghan, newly elected chairperson of Mitchelstown Musical Society, hopes that many clubs and organisations in the region, will endeavour to host their various activities and events at the centre, going forward. It is truly a wonderful asset for the town and its environs.

Mitchelstown Musical Society, wishes to express its sincere gratitude to CBS Secondary, for the use of its auditorium for performances, since the Society was founded, in 2006. By kind permission, the Society will continue to use the CBS facilities for rehearsals.

Doubtless, there will be considerable work and financial outlay to facilitate the staging of a musical at the new venue. To defray the inevitable costs, Mitchelstown Musical Society is now seeking sponsorship.

If any business or individual would like to get involved with this community group, as a sponsor, please do not hesitate to contact Mary O’Callaghan, chairperson on (089) 4359977, or indeed, any committee member. They would be delighted to hear from you!

This weekend, members of Mitchelstown Musical Society attended the production of ‘Footloose’. They extend their congratulations to the production team, cast and backstage management on a wonderfully entertaining show.

The Society is now hopeful of many new members from the bank of these talented young people who have inevitably caught the showbiz bug - musical theatre has a bright future in Mitchelstown!

Mitchelstown Musical Society is looking forward to welcoming past, present and new members as it enters the next exciting chapter of its history. Now, it’s time to select the 2023 show…. watch this space! Onwards and upwards!
