First Holy Communion and Confirmation Sacraments were celebrated in Glenroe on Saturday last, a real celebration for the six children and their families. It was a special celebration for the parish as the last First Holy Communion was in 2015 and the Confirmation was a year earlier. Thanks was extended to muinteoirí Marie and Charlotte, who outside of school hours with support from Fr Michael O’Shea, prepared the children for the sacraments.

Following the ceremonies, all were invited by Glenroe-Ballyorgan Community Council to refreshments in Glenroe Hall. Special mention from parents and children included the tiered cake stands (Bluberries) with an array of cakes, including themed cup-cakes donated by Glenroe Cup Cakes and personalised mini cakes for each child donated by BB Bakes and jars of sweet treats with themed bags.

GLENROE TIDY TOWNS

Glenroe Tidy Towns members participated in a Ballyhoura Tidy Towns Networking event in Emly last week. Many lessons were learned, especially in ‘doing more with less’, with a focus on saving seeds and splitting plants for sustainably producing new plants. A big thank you to Rhiannan Laubach for organising it and to Emly Tidy Towns for hosting the visit and providing welcome refreshments.

GLENROE-BALLYORGAN PARISH HISTORICAL DAY

I write to you with joy and thanksgiving for Historical Day of last Saturday, May 6th for our parish of Glenroe-Ballyorgan. We celebrated the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation in Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church, Glenroe. These Sacraments were not celebrated for the last seven years.

The reopening of our school in Glenroe as the Glenroe Community National school has been a blessing. Being under the patronage of LCETB and respecting their ethos, we have exceptionally committed and dedicated teachers Julie, Marie, Charlotte and Kate who enjoy an excellent relationship with their pupils. They take a personal interest in each child and show great understanding and sensitivity. They always aim to develop their varying talents and bring out the best in them.

I very much appreciated their after school careful preparation of the children for the sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. With gratitude and thanksgiving for their efforts, the pupils ensured not only that they were very well prepared for the ceremony, but they were also given a deep understanding of the spiritual significance of the celebration. It was very much appreciated by parents for diligent work with these children. We are indebted to these teachers and say a huge thanks.

Congratulations to Daniel, Danny, Aurora, Rebecca, Mollie and Aoife in receiving these sacraments. Thanks to everyone who helped and shared with them, especially their teachers Charlotte and Marie, Mike the sacristan, Mary for her beautiful music and singing and for Glenroe-Ballyorgan Community Council. God bless and reward you all. Thanks again.

GLENROE/BALLYORGAN ACTIVE GROUP

Due to the restrictions over the past two years opportunities of getting together were zero. We have a plan put in place to visit the recently renovated gardens at Annesgrove, Castletownroche, on Thursday, 26th May. A meal at Springfort Hall will be included.

This is a summer opportunity to get out to enjoy the fresh air, gardens and finish off with a nice meal and chat after a long lockdown.

CLOTHES BANK

The lovely pink clothes bank is located in Glenroe Church car park which can be used by people near and far to recycle their household clothing. Spring is here and now is the time to give that wardrobe a clean out. Profits from the bin will be given to Glenroe-Ballyorgan Community Council so that they can continue to run events and invest in the local area. It is important to note all clothes, shoes and household clothing will be accepted except duvets and pillows.

If you have a notice that you would like to have included in the Glenroe-Ballyorgan notes email nicolajdennehy@ gmail.com by 8pm Sunday.
