Class 3D have a capital experience in Croke Park

-

On 5th May, Class 3D from Coláiste an Chraoibhín and their teachers Mr. Cahill, Ms. McArthy and Mr. O’Connell travelled over two hours from Fermoy to the ‘Stadium of Dreams’ Croke Park. After a long drive the bus finally made it’s way through Dublin’s traffic to Croker. The class jumped with joy as they finally arrived at their destination.

After the tour guides Cian and Conor introduced themselves, our class made their way to the Skyline tour. Over 3 escalator trips and 100 steps, we found ourselves 48 metres above the ground. There was a nice view of Dublin and the city seemed so small from such a height. We learned about the history of the city, stadium and saw some of Dublin’s iconic landmarks including The Spire, The GPO, The Aviva Stadium and Daniel O’Connell’s memorial in Glasnevin. The stadium can hold over 82,000 people.

Next came the scary part where we walked out over the pitch to see a break taking view of the pitch in all its glory. After the tour, we headed down to the GAA museum where we saw the GAA trophies like the Sam McGuire and Liam McCarthy cup and a corner dedicated to the 1920 Bloody Sunday atrocity. We then went to the Games room to practice our skills like jumping, hurling and sprinting.

Finally, the class headed off to the shop which had all sorts like GAA magnets, jerseys, wristbands, badges, cups, socks and more. We really enjoyed our time at the stadium and we look forward to visiting again soon.
