Busy week at Blackwater Community School, Lismore
Well done to all Junior and Leaving Cert students who have been involved recently in practical work as part of their exams. The work included History and Geography projects, Home Economics practicals, Engineering and Construction practicals and Music practical. LCA students had their Hotel and Catering assessment task on Wednesday, April 25th and LCVP students had their Leaving Certificate exam last Wednesday.
STUDENTS DOING WELL IN LOCAL CLUBS
Well done to all BCS students who are having great success with their local Boxing, Snooker, Dancing and Rowing Clubs over the last few weeks, competing at provincial and national level.
MODEL U.N. PROGRAM
400 students from 30 schools descended on Cork’s City Hall to discuss and debate some of the biggest social, political and economic issues facing Ireland, Europe and the World as the country’s largest three day Model United Nations Conference which got underway on Tuesday May 3rd organised by Davis College, Mallow. Amongst this group were 13 students from BCS. The students had prepared speeches and carried out extensive research on a variety of countries acting as representative delegates for countries like Greece, Chile, Nicaragua, Slovakia, Venezuela and Nepal. Sylvie Topps and Ava Dowling addressed the conference issues like Domestic Violence and Cure World Violence. Well done on all involved and to the co-ordinator Ms Howard.
UNDER 14 HURLING
Our under 14 hurlers qualified for the Westcourt Cup final after their semi-final victory over Callan CBS last Thursday. They will meet Abbey CBS in the final.
LADIES FOOTBALL
Well done to the first year ladies football team who took part in The Munster LGFA Blitz in Mallow last week.
EASTER BAKING COMPETITION
Well done to all who took part in the virtual Easter Baking Challenge and congratulations to the winners: Holly McNamara - 3rd Yr for “Best Design”, Dawn Flynn - 1st Yr for “Cutest Creation” and to Alanna Fallon - 3rd Yr - “Eggcellent Skills!”
ATHLETICS
The Girls East Munster Track and Field event took place in the R.S.C. last week . Congratulations to Maya Rossa who took gold in the Minor shot putt and Junior javelin, Eimear Meaney who also took gold in the Junior Girls long jump, Charlotte Norman who took gold in the 1500m Minor girls. Best of luck to all who have qualified for the Munster Schools competition which will be held in Templemore on Saturday, 21st May. Next up is the East Munster Boys’ event which is this Thursday 12th in Templemore.
SCHOOL TRIPS
Our second year group headed to Castlecomer Discovery Park last Tuesday, The First years head to Fota Wildlife Park this week and Third years will travel next week.
ACTIVITIES THIS WEEK
Best of luck to the Under 15 hurlers in their semi-final on Tuesday at home venue, to the Under 14 hurlers in their final on Thursday and to the Boys Athletes on their Track and Field event on Thursday.
