Cascade of diving certifications for Blackwater divers

-

A huge congratulations to our new divers who have made massive strides over the past weeks, with all having made multiple dives in a variety of fresh and salt water environments over the past 5 weeks and whom are progressing at a very impressive rate towards their first certification exams.

Last Saturday on the remains of the shipwreck the Westwick a WW1 5,000 ton steamship sunk at the entrance of Cork harbour a number of the group underwent their diver one star examination. This exam tests the divers on core skills like buoyancy control, mask and regulator clearing and rescue skills as well as theory and dive tables.

After successful completion of same divers can venture below 10 meters deep and it also allows them to build up skills to dive deeper and progress towards other diver grades. In good diving conditions it was great to see so many of this years’ trainees successfully pass the one star examination grade and also to do it with such high diving grades and so early in the diving season, well done to you all and also to Mike Reidy and Dick Vaughan as training officers.

No doubt in the coming weeks we will see many more of the class of 2022 graduate the course with flying colours.
