Lotto jackpot at record €20,200
On Tuesday of last Week, May 3rd our weekly lotto jackpot was a massive €20,000. Numbers drawn were 3, 7, 18 and 25, no winner. With the maximum jackpot rules changed we will add on an extra €200 each week so on Tuesday, May 10th the jackpot stood at €20,200. U12S V ST. FINBARR’S
The U12 boys finished the grading section of the hurling league on Monday with a win at home to St Finbarr’s. We were up 1-3 to 0-2 at half-time, but the Barrs got two goals to go ahead at the start of the second half. Liam Carr got his second goal to put us a point ahead and Cormac, Liam and Cody added points to leave it 2-8 to 2-3 at full-time. After a hard few weeks, results wise, it was great to finish on a win and a good performance. We wait now to be put into leagues for the rest of the season.

U13S
With the grading process stage completed for both of our U13 teams, now we face a competition lull for a couple of weeks. Both our P2 and C3 teams have been very active over the last 2 weeks with some players having 5 games over a 2 week period, so the break and concentration on training will hopefully do them good.
Our C3 footballers faced a tough challenge in their game against a very strong Mallow side on Friday night last. With Confirmation on Thursday for many of the lads and also a long day of hurling in the St. Colman’s blitz, we were short quite a few of our regulars. Mallow ran out winners 5-10 to 0-2, which probably didn’t reflect some of the good work that the lads showed during that game. Many thanks to Sean, Fionn and Nathan for attending at short notice.
EXECUTIVE MEETING
There was a good attendance at Monday night’s club executive meeting with chairman Gerard Lane in the chair. A long agenda was progressed. Amongst the items discussed were the online lotto promotion, Pyne’s Field Sub-committee meeting report, painting dressing rooms and clubroom, floor covering for clubrooms, NS coaching, scrap collection, purchasing training bibs, fundraising, fixtures, car boot sale on Sunday, May 22nd and votes of sympathy.
U15 FOOTBALL
Our under 15s played Fermoy in division 1 league football on Wednesday, 4th May. In a close and tight match both sides played good football with the half-time score Bride Rovers 0-5 Fermoy 1-3.
Bride Rovers played really well in the second half but we had a lot of wides, but we ran out winners by two points - Bride Rovers 0-10 Fermoy 1-5. We would like to thank our sponsor East Cork Fireplaces. Our next league game is at the end of June v Clyda Rovers.
CORK V WATERFORD SUNDAY
For some reason I have no recollection of the 1975 Munster SHC game in Walsh Park between Cork and Waterford. Cork had an easy win that day by 4-15 to 0-6 and went on to win the Munster final, scoring 3-14 in the semi-final v Clare and the very same tally in the provincial final against Limerick.
The 1974 encounter in Walsh Park I clearly recall - we lost by 4-9 to 3-8 on a day when Cork goalie Paddy Barry got sent off. My recollection - and I was behind the goals - was that Paddy threw his broken hurley away in disgust after the sliotar ended up in the net. The ‘ bas’ of the broken stick hit an umpire, down he went and off went Paddy! In 1982 and ‘83 we had easy wins over the Decies but in modern times how things have changed. Between 2002 and 2007 Cork and Waterford played some brilliant matches and again in the last decade the counties produced some classics.
Sunday’s game is truly the ‘last chance saloon’ for Cork and hopefully they can produce a top class display. In early April Waterford beat us by 4-20 to 1-23 in the league final. Waterford looked like world-beaters that day but surely the pride in that red and white jersey will be seen next Sunday in Walsh Park - go for it Cork, c’mon the Rebels.
Back to 1975, I recall Cork were hot favourites for the semi-final against Galway. In Croke Park on the day as part of a very small crowd I remember Cork wore black shorts because the game was on TV and most people had only black and white tellies back then! The black togs were a bad omen for Cork as Galway shocked ‘em by 4-15 to 2-19, the Cork goals came from wing back Con Roche and wing forward Jimmy Barry Murphy. We beat St Catherine’s in the Junior B Grade Hurling championship in Castlelyons the night before the Cork game by 3-9 to 1-4. Facthna O’Driscoll who had missed the Junior A grade championship ‘cause of a broken jaw in a practise match, came onto the B grade team that night along with Johnny Barry. That was in July - in October that B grade team led by Pat O’Connor were East Cork champions.
U10S V EIRE OG
The under 10s welcomed Eire Óg to the main pitch last Saturday where two football and two hurling matches were played. All matches were extremely competitive. Eire Óg slightly shaded proceedings in the football, but only slightly. This Bride Rovers U10 group is equally skilful with the big ball as well as the small ball, so it was great to see our lads going toe to toe in the football. The hurling was equally as tight with our lads shading the games in the main against good opposition.
Many of the Eire Og contingent were going to Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night to see Kerry take on Cork in the Munster semi-final. Though Kerry won well, the Rebels fought bravely ‘til the end. For Eire Og it was special occasion as three Eire Og footballers lined out with the Cork team - Dylan Foley, John Cooper and Colm O’Callaghan. Next weekend sees us travelling to Ballyduff Upper in Waterford for their annual U10 tournament, where all the local heavyweights will be in action. Teams from Sars, Fermoy and the Rovers will take on the best from Waterford and Tipperary in what should be an exciting day of hurling. Best of luck to all the lads involved.

CORK LOSE OUT IN CELTIC LEAGUE
The Cork East U17 hurling team featuring our own Louie Roche were beaten in the semi-final of the Celtic League last weekend. Cork East were defeated by a strong Galway outfit.
U17 FOOTBALLERS WIN AWAY Bride Rovers 2-4 St Colman’s 0-6
On Friday night last we travelled to Shanagarry to play St Colman’s - a combination side of Cloyne and Russell Rovers. It was a good game of open football between two evenly balanced teams. We were missing a few players because of injury, work and other reasons. It was good to see Kamso back after injury and Denis Cashman playing his first game with us after his time with Cork minors - hard luck to the Rebels who lost out to Clare.
Gearoid O Connell made the step up from under 15 to help us with numbers on the night and acquitted himself well. Our lads played some good football on the night to come away the win -both sides got six scores but goals are
winners.

CORK MINORS OUT
Cork’s reign as All-Ireland Minor hurling champions came to an end last week. After a wonderful campaign last year it was hoped the young Rebels might go a fair bit in this year’s campaign but Clare ended that dream. At home in Pairc Ui Rinn last week Cork met the Banner boys in the Munster semi-final. Hitting 21 wides Cork were eventually beaten by a margin of just 3 points. Our own Denis Cashman played well at corner back for Cork. It’s a pity to lose out so early in the year. Well done Denis, you’re following in the footsteps of an ever-increasing number of Rovers’ players to wear the blood and bandage of Cork.
Another player on the Cork minor panel with local connections was Darragh Browne of Blackrock. Darragh is son of John and grandson of the late Joe Browne of Garrylaurence, Clonmult and formerly of Rathaneague, Bartlemy. Joe was a player and selector with Bride Rovers in the 1950s and 1960s.
U11S BUSY
Our under 11s train each Wednesday from 6pm til 7pm and new players are very, very welcome to come along. We play host to both Fermoy and Nemo Rangers on Saturday morning next for a hurling blitz.
The players are improving in their skill level every week. They were a great group to take to Thurles and are still talking about the Trip to Tipp - ‘memories are made of this’.
U14 HURLING
Bride Rovers U14s played their last regular hurling league match against last year’s Premier 1 hurling semi-finalists and Premier 1 Football champions, Killeagh, in Pyne’s pitch last Friday night. It was very evident early on that our opponents were of a high quality but that didn’t deter the boys from hooking, blocking and harrying their opponents from the off and kept the same determination throughout the match.
After 15 minutes the effort the boys were putting in kept the scoreline to 1-1 to 0-1, in favour of the visitors. As the effort took its toll Killeagh stretched their lead and were 2-8 to 0-2 ahead at the break.
Again in the second half the boys, despite sustained pressure, didn’t let their heads drop and there were some spirited displays, particularly from Jamie Walsh and Jack Lynch in the backs, Garry Quirke
in midfield and James Larkin up front. Many others also played their part but in the end Killeagh were comfortable winners. It is often said that more is learned from defeat than victory and this will be the case from this match with the boys learning loads which will stand to them with their 2 first round championship matches coming up in the coming weeks in quick succession, in football and hurling. It was heartening to see the commitment from the boys despite taking on top class Premier 1 opponents.

Exciting news as our 2022 Cul camp has been confirmed. It will start on Monday, July 25th and go on until the following Fridaystrange isn’t it that on Monday, July 25th all the talk will probably be of the All-Ireland Senior football final which is down for decision in Croke Park the previous day, Sunday, July 24th. Restrictions on numbers attending the camp will apply again. Registration will be opening online shortly.

We’re still seeking our first win in the RedFM County SH League. On Sunday we played Kanturk but came up short against a strong Duhallow side. In fairness our lads
are trying hard and putting in fierce effort but the results aren’t coming right.

HELPING BALLINHASSIG CLUB
On Monday, August 29th we will be helping the Ballinhassig club with their Trip to Tipp fundraiser. Teams from Ballinhassig will call to Sars, Bride Rovers, Glanworth and Galbally en route to Thurles.
LINING THE PITCHES
The club is forming a Pitch Lining Group. Involvement would mean giving an hour or two on a weekly or fortnightly basis if we have sufficient numbers. Contact Denis 086-6074553.
BARTLEMY RACES
After a 2 year absence Bartlemy Point-to-Point races went ahead at Hightown on Sunday last. With lovely weather a fine crowd witnessed some great racing and the general consensus was ‘It’s great to be back’.
