Ballyguyroe legal case adjourned until June

- MARIAN ROCHE

The legal action being taken by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) against Cork County Council for issues at the Ballyguyroe Landfill Site near Kildorrery, has been adjourned in Fermoy District Court until Friday, 17th June.

The case was originally to be heard last Friday and is being taken as the EPA has the landfill site on the National Priority List since early 2021. Since then, the EPA say that ‘no significant progress had been made’ since it was put on the list. One concern the EPA have are for the “consistently” excessive levels of leachate in many of the landfill cells.

The environmental monitoring agency also cited ‘ineffective management’ of landfill gas and landfill leachate at the site as a concern.
