Kilworth village, in a good place

- JOHN AHERN

Representat ives from Kilworth Community Council returned from the ipb Pride of Place ceremony in Killarney this week with a coveted award in the ‘1,000 to 2,000’ population category. The function, which included a gala dinner, took place in association with Co-operation Ireland.

The extensive Gleneagle INEC Arena hosted this elaborate event that featured entries from throughout the island of Ireland. Needless to say, standards were high as voluntary groups presented a variety of projects in the best possible light.

Following the adjudication process, Kilworth was recognised with a runners-up award in its category, behind national winners Abbeyleix, for the vibrancy of its sporting and social facilities, the strength of its voluntary sector and ongoing enhancement works.

TEAM EFFORT

Speaking to The Avondhu this week, Dan Noonan, said it was great to be officially recognised at such a prestigious event. He went on to acknowledge the steadfast backing of personnel from Fermoy Municipal District, staff at Cork County Council in County Hall, public representatives, along with the very considerable input of local volunteers for their steadfast support over the years, which has helped the local community council deliver key infrastructural projects.

Others involved in the video presentation for the village included Cian O’Meara and drone footage provider, Andreas Burcev. The presentation also benefitted from the inclusion of an image taken by local photographer, Murat Terzei.

The umbrella group who guide and oversee development work in the village are Kilworth Community Council. Founded in 1959, it continues to be instrumental in delivering vital infrastructural works.
