Tallow footpath ‘in need of attention’

- KATIE GLAVIN

“At the very bare minimum, that footpath needs attention,” said local Cllr John Pratt regarding a footpath located at Park Dota, Tallow.

The footpath, which is across from the hurling field and is in bad condition and in need of work, which he called for at last week’s meeting of the Dungarvan Lismore District.

“It’s not suitable and coming into the summer months, we need to get that done,” Cllr Pratt added.

Senior Engineer with Waterford City and County Council, Gabriel Hynes, stated that he had had a discussion with the National Transport Authority regarding the matter and that the footpath works would not be funded under Active Travel schemes.

“We don’t really have any funds under capital programmes (for the works). We can do some patching there but that’s the best we can do for now,” Mr Hynes added.

Asking a secondary question, Cllr Pratt queried as to the delivery of the roads programme with regards to increasing costs, asking whether it’s likely more funding will be issued from the government to ensure the delivery of this year’s programme.

Mr Hynes confirmed that the council had some discussions with the department on the issue, saying: “They are aware of the issue and the impact it is having on our programme. It is a national issue and we are awaiting a response.”
