COUNCILLORS STILL TO BE BRIEFED ON FERMOY FLOOD REPORT

- KATIE GLAVIN

While no update was issued regarding the Fermoy Flood Incident Report at Monday’s Northern Committee meeting, councillors were informed that a presentation, to be made to them, is imminent.

Speaking at this week’s meeting, Rathcormac councillor William O’Leary pressed the matter of the report, hoping to seek an update for those affected in the incident which occurred in February last year.

Pointing to a previous meeting, Cllr O’Leary stated that the elected members were supposed to be given a presentation, as stated by council officials at the time, however, they ‘haven’t heard anything back yet’.

“We are dealing with the businesses every day, they are contacting us and they are frustrated and we are not able to give them an answer. We are still awaiting that up-to-date report that we were told we would have in March and it still hasn’t been forthcoming,” Cllr O’Leary stated.

Cork County Northern Divisional Manager, James Fogarty stated that a presentation to elected members in the Fermoy Municipal District is ‘ imminent’ and will be scheduled shortly. Despite this, Mr Fogarty noted that the direct report is a ‘different matter’.

In a statement to TheAvondhu on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Office of Public Works (OPW) said that the report is now with the OPW and is currently being reviewed.

“OPW can confirm receipt of the report into the flooding incident in Fermoy in February 2021, which is currently being reviewed. On completion of the review, it will then be returned to Cork County Council,” the spokesperson said.
