New Mill Island location a hit for farmers’ market

- JOHN AHERN

Fermoy Farmers’ Market moved home last weekend, having set up shop in the town’s Mill Island carpark. It previously operated from the grounds of Richmond House, Fermoy. Spacious, well situated and easily accessible, this new setting has a lot going for it.

BUILDING UP THE BRAND

The farmers’ market model works well in other locations and there’s no reason why this can’t be replicated in Fermoy. A fine morning last Saturday helped get the market off to the best possible start. Stalls included the established and some newcomers, with of course, always room for more.

SUPPORT LOCAL, SHOP LOCAL

While most modern shopping patterns revolve around international retail chains, there’s still room for the traditional stallholder and their wares. With the introduction of Brexit in recent times, as well as the pandemic giving people an opportunity to reassess their shopping/lifestyle habits, supporting local has never been more valued.

Fermoy Farmers’ Market embodies this concept, and with the necessary support, it can go on to thrive, in what are currently challenging trading conditions.

GOOD VIBE

There was plenty of interest in last Saturday’s market, which will take place fortnighly. Readers are encouraged to get behind the concept and ensure its future in the months and years ahead.

New recruits to the market are especially welcome, with further details available from market co-ordinator, Ann Mason (086-1744395).
