Walking festival prepares to return

- MARIAN ROCHE

Up in The Vee, the rhododendrons are just beginning to appear and by the June bank holiday weekend the Galtee Vee Valley should be awash with flowers. To celebrate, the annual Rhododendron Walking Festival committee are busy preparing for some of the trail walks they are organising for 2022.

The slopes around the valley will be a riot of pink and purple, and with trail walks for all ages and abilities available, almost everyone will be able to enjoy the sight. Almost 100 kilometres of off-road trails are available to walkers in the south Tipperary valley.

During the festival, which returns after being affected like almost all others during the Covid restrictions, local guides are available to take participants deep into the valley. Sunset walks, duck pond walks and a family fun day are all in the line-up, as well as gentle guided walks, up to more challenging loops that will take up to six hours exploring the peaks of the Knockmealdown mountain range.
