Pond and farmland biodiversity to be showcased in Castlelyons
Events are taking place across the country as a part of ‘National Biodiversity Week 2022’, with one such event set to go ahead in Castlelyons.
The nationwide event, which is coordinated by the Irish Environmental Network and is funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service, and supported by the Heritage Council’s network, runs until Sunday, May 22 having commenced last Friday, May 13.
This Sunday, local farmer Donal Sheehan will lead an event from his farm at Ballyarra, Castlelyons, focusing on ponds and farmland biodiversity. Those intent on attending should note that places at this event are limited and booking is advised via info@cef.ie or at (083) 1468064.
Elsewhere, events will also be held, all with the aim of engaging the public in a range of nature-related activities.
Welcoming the launch of the programme last week, Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Malcolm Noonan TD said: “National Biodiversity Week is a great opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to get out into nature and learn how to make space for it in our own communities.”
“It’s also a fantastic way of meeting new people and engaging with some of the brilliant organisations involved in biodiversity conservation around the country. I’d like to commend the Irish Environmental Network for coordinating such a diverse and interesting programme of events,” he added.
