Rathcormac Community Council monthly report

-

The Rathcormac Community Council meeting for May 2022 took place fully in person on Monday, 16th May at 8pm in the Old School. Bob Seward, chairperson, welcomed a good group to the meeting and proceeded with a busy agenda.

Conor Gurrin read the minutes of the March meeting and these were agreed and signed.

Jonathon then gave the financial report which showed us in good shape due to some of our fundraising events getting back on track. The envelope collection was a huge success and gives us much needed seed capital to allow us to apply for further grants for the progressing of more developments in the field and village.

FUNDRAISING

This has been going very well. The envelope collection/GoFundMe project has been a great success and still continues to grow. So far it has brought in over €40,000. You are not too late to contribute to that by either dropping your envelope to the hall to Conor and Geraldine between 12 and 1pm on Saturdays or to any committee member. Please consider donating. If unsure of how to do this look up your flyer or ring for help to Frank 086-4028398 or Richie 087-2021225 or Geraldine 086-3859237 and we will arrange to collect your envelope. Frank and Richie are in the hall at the cards between 8 and 11pm each Tuesday night. Remember this is your Community Hub and Sports Field. Cheques should be made out to Rathcormac Community Council.

RUNNING TRACK

Bob is continuing to work on getting the running track contract placed. It will also include the tennis and multi-games area. A discussion took place as to the type of track needed and it was decided one like that at the Mardyke would be fine. This will soon go out to tender.

THE COMMUNITY FIELD & SPORTS HUB

The Family Area now also needs to be laid out properly while we have the good weather. We need a layout plan for this. Suggestions will be welcome. We may just tidy it up this year to make it usable while we plan the full finish.

CORK CO COUNCIL

Progress continues with CCC regarding the Village Development Plan. We thank them for their work so far and also for recently granting 10K to allow the construction of the bicycle shelter. The route to the school is now much safer and the traffic around the green has a much better road.

THE INNOVATION CENTRE DEVELOPMENT

We are continuing with the plans for this multi million euro project. We are running into difficulty completing some sections of the plan. We may need to meet with the department on some aspects of the requirements.

CARDS ON TUESDAYS

The cards started back on Tuesday, 15th February. We are continuing each Tuesday at 8.15 in the hall and are welcoming more of our old friends back as the weeks pass. We are now back up to 60% of our old crowd each Tuesday night with 12 tables and it is great to see people gradually returning. Thanks to all for that.

CAR BOOT SALE

The next Sale is on next Sunday, 22nd May. The sales have been a great success since we restarted in August. The April 24th one was huge. Back to over 180 traders and great crowds of patrons.

ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP

Our Environment Pillar Group is continuing to develop plans to make Rathcormac more Green aware.

AGM

This will take place in September. It is too late to have it now during the holiday period.

CONDOLENCES

These were recorded to recently bereaved families in the district.

NEXT MEETING

This will be in the Old School on 20th June at 8pm. Stay safe everybody, keep with the Covid rules for a while more.
