St. Colman’s College - Lord Mayor’s Cup winners

-

St. Colman’s College, Fermoy won the Lord Mayor’s Cup on Tuesday week last, 10th May. Hosted by MTU this is a Cork 18 hurling competition with no current sixth year students allowed to take part in it. Ultimately it gives Cork schools a look at players ahead of the 2022/2023 Harty Cup and O’Callaghan Cup campaigns.

Four schools took part in the A competition. St. Colman’s College beat Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal, Midleton CBS. Christian Brother’s College Cork also beat these two teams, so a well matched final was provided between St. Colman’s College and CBC.

The final saw Colman’s down by 2 points at half-time but they went on to comprehensively beat Christians 1-08 to 1-05.

Colman’s midfielder and Bride Rovers hurler, David Barry was thrilled with the win. “It was a great experience overall as we got to see how well we would play against other future Harty Cup teams. On top of that it was a privilege to win the competition.”

Team captain Jamie Magner, a Killavullen native, stated that “It was a great day out and we played three very competitive matches. It was a great honour to accept the cup on behalf of the team.” Here’s hoping this is a taste of what is to come with this Harty Cup team next year!
