May outing to Dundrum House
Funcheon Valley’s second outing of the 2022 Season saw the satnavs set for Dundrum House Golf Club.
With a number of low handicap golfers away successfully representing Mitchelstown Golf Club in the Pierce Purcell it was no surprise that the higher handicaps fought out the prizes. With pleasant sunshine and little wind conditions were favourable, however on a Championship Course with slick greens scoring was still tough.
Out in the first group Chelsea fan John McCleary set the club house lead on 38 points. Unfortunately for John, just like his team, he was pipped in a very tight finish. John O’Brien out in the group behind also had 38 points but had a better back 9 of 23 points. After 3 holes one golfer who was 100/1 in running was Sean Buckley, with less points than a triangle even Sean himself could not envisage what was to follow. Steadying the ship on holes 4 to 7 Sean then went on a par blitz picking up an incredible 21 points in his next 7 holes, he could even afford a scratch on the 16th on his way to 39 points that was not surpassed. It was Sean’s maiden Funcheon Valley victory and he was a popular winner.
After the excitement of the golf it was back to Dundrum House in time for the FA Cup Final and the presentation. Secretary John Cotter got proceedings underway by thanking sponsors Pat Coughlan and Mike Ryan. Sean thanked his playing partners on the day and secretary John for another successful outing. He also thanked the Dundrum House course for having the course in good condition and the catering staff for the fine food.

1st Sean Buckley 39 points, 2nd John O’Brien 38 points (back 9), 3rd John McCleary 38 points, 4th Billy Walsh 37 points (back 9), 5th Ger Harte 37 points, front 9 Chris Ablett 18 points, back 9 Colm McCarthy 23 points.
