SENIORS Fermoy 3-14 St Vals 3-10

This league game was played in Fermoy in excellent conditions on a very good pitch.

This was a free flowing game with play up and down the pitch and some very good scores taken by both sides. The sides were level at half-time, St Vals having played with the wind.

Half-time score: Fermoy 3-04 St Vals 2-07. First half scorers were: Aisling Daly (1-0) Saoirse Moore (0-2), Teresa Murphy (1-0), Abbie Scannell (1-0), Muireann O’Brien (0-2).

The second half saw another evenly contested game with play again switching from end to end with Fermoy just edging it. Both teams showed great commitment and fitness. The game was exciting to the end and compliments to both teams on an excellent game.

Second half scorers were Saoirse Moore (0-5), Aisling Daly (0-4) and Michelle Parker (0-1).

Fermoy had many great performances including Derbhla Creed in goal, all the fullback line, Laura Scannell, Sinead and Mary O’Sullivan were outstanding in the halfback line. Teresa Murphy and Muireann O’Brien covered huge ground from midfield and once again Saoirse Moore, Abbie Scannell, Aisling Daly and Aoibhe Carey were excellent in the forwards.

U8

We played Glanworth last Thursday, 12th May and the girls played really well in their first game this year. Thanks to Glanworth for the game and well done to all involved.

U10

Our U9 and U10 teams took on Castlelyons last Tuesday night in two exciting games. We had some really strong performances on the night. Our catching, kicking and in particular our teamwork is improving with each outing, well done girls. Thanks to Castlelyons for hosting us. Training continues each Tuesday night, we will have more games coming up over the next few weeks.

U11

Our U11 ladies football team started their league campaign on Sunday, 15th May against Glanmire. This was a brilliant match with huge effort and work rate put in by the girls and it paid off at the final whistle. Play was end to end of the pitch but our backs made up of Emma Mannix, Sadie Roche, Cliona Wall, Katie Beecher, Lucy Noonan and Kate O’Donoghue never gave in and kept defending our goal and moving ball quickly out to midfield whenever it came towards them.

Grainne O’Flynn in goal kept gaining distance on kick outs and when called upon to make saves, ably dealt with them. The work rate from our midfield duo of Katie McGann and Niamh Collins was huge, getting their hands on the ball regularly and dispossessing the Glanmire players at every opportunity. In our forwards Sarah Hoare, Sofie Doyle, Zoe Watkins, Emma Kenny, Abbie O’Carroll and Tara McCarthy attacked every ball at pace that came their way, moving the ball well and really putting a lot of pressure on the Glanmire backs and goalie. Very well done girls, a great team performance, supporting and encouraging each other constantly and enjoying every minute of it.
