GAA for All

-

GAA for All is for children with special and additional needs. We finished a 6 week pilot last Wednesday with the local group Special Friends, Mitchelstown. We included fundamental movements, some football skills and introduced basics of hurling last Wednesday. This proved very successful and enjoyable for the children, parents and coaches. The intention now is to continue on Wednesdays 6-7 in Limerick Road and open it to all children with needs in the locality. We are greatly encouraged by recruitment of 7 more coaches this week and would welcome many more for the expected demand for this activity in order to provide the best possible support. U17 HURLERS ENJOY COMFORTABLE WIN OVER LISGOOLD

Our second last league match was played at home last Friday evening in glorious sunshine against Killavullen. Following on from their narrow defeat to Whitechurch 2 weeks ago, the lads were anxious to get back to winning wins and went out fighting from the start.

Ballygiblin took control of the game from the start and took an early lead with great goals from Conor Walsh, Cathal Walsh and Robbie O’Sullivan and points from Eoin Flynn, David Conroy and Cathal Walsh. Ballygiblin dominated throughout the field and with a great defence managed to keep the scores low for the opposition. At half-time Ballygiblin had a comfortable lead 4-07 to 1-04.

The lads continued to work hard into the second half and kept up a good lead. They ran out worthy winners on a strong scoreline of 4-16 to 1-08. Well done to all the players who played brilliantly throughout the match. Our final league match won’t be played until late June as many of the lads will be sitting exams over the next few weeks.

U13 HURLING LEAGUE

On Saturday the U13 team travelled to Shanballymore to play St Dominics. From the start we found it hard to get to grips with this mature combination side. Their number 9 and 11 were particularly hard to handle, scoring 3-8 between them in the first half. Ciaran in goal made a number of good saves and clearances. We scored 1-2 in the first half - the goal coming from Fionn taping in a high cross from Shay, and two frees from Odhran and Xavier. In a hectic first half we had a goal line clearance from Jayden and unlucky shots by John and Michael.

In the second half we were much better Jason, John and Shay having great games with their tackling and attacking play. Odhran scored a goal from a free from the hard to handle James and another point from a free. Tony scored the last free which he won himself to leave final score St Dominics 3-16 Ballygiblin 2-4

Team - Ciaran Fitzgerald, Cormac Hoye, Jake Farrissey, Jayden Keane, Xavier Motherway, Jason Holland, Jack Dalton, Michael Murphy, Shay O’Regan, Fionn Moher, Odhran O’Farrell, John Murphy, Daire Burke, Tony Murphy, James Walsh.

U12 HURLING LEAGUE

Ballygiblin played a home game against Clyda Rovers on Monday evening. In a nail biting encounter Clyda opened the scoring before we got our first goal from a long range effort from Harry which deceived the keeper. After some great saves and confident clearing from Rory in goal Michael got our next goal. After a good delivery from Jason he picked, rounded his man and buried the ball. Jason then scored a goal from his own free. Clyda then hit a good patch scoring two goals and a point before half-time.

The start of the second half had three goals for each team. MJ scored the Ballygiblin goals from good work by Scott, John and Ethan. We kept the lead into the final stages with good defending from Jack and Kevin and points from Scott and Micheal Walsh, only for Clyda to score the match winning score in injury time to leave it Clyda Rovers 6-5 Ballygiblin 6-3.

Team - Rory McCarthy, Kevin Cooke, Jack Dalton, Darragh Condon, Harry Brennan, Eoin Luddy, Micheal Walsh, Jason Holland, Scott Kirby, Ethan Molan, John Connolly Murphy, Fionn Moher, Michael Murphy, Daire Burke, MJ Keane, Noah Bernard, Max Corbett, Cian Walsh.
