The Avondhu

Winning ways

-

Following on from postponements and walkovers the previous week both our Div 1 teams got to see action last week.

First out were the hurlers who made the short trip to Glanworth a winning one. The lack of game time was very evident in the first half and we were down by 5 points on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-5. But a very strong showing in the second half where we added 19 points to our tally, ensured we ran out comfortable 8-point winners on a final score of 0-24 to 0-16.

Team: Brian Lombard, Jeff Gowen, Dave O’Brien, John Roche, James Roche, Eoin Buckley, Seamus Roche, Darragh O’Reilly, Diarmuid Linehan, Eoin Twomey, Sean Linehan, Fergal O’Connell, Gearoid Roche, Barry Johnson, and Dylan Collins.

There were 5 substitutions made and they were all for injury rather than tactical. Mark Burdett for Dave O’Brien (20mins), Fionn Hess for Eoin Twomey (h/t), Colm Crowley for Fergal (45mins), Brian O’Driscoll for Seamus (55mins) and Rob O’Gorman for Jeff (58mins).

As a result of the latest injuries received in the hurling match and existing injuries, our footballers made the trip to Charleville on Saturday night missing several regulars. And the lack of experience told as Charleville had 2 early goals scored and by half-time they led 3-5 to 0-2 with our points coming from the boot of Diarmuid Linehan.

In the second half the lads showed how quickly they can learn and the extra work rate and physicality that was evident in the second half performance saw the second half played out as a 4-point draw.

Team: Adrian O’Driscoll, Eoin Buckley, Jeff Gowen, Mark Burdett, James Roche, Seamus Roche, Gearoid Roche, Sean Linehan, Barry Johnson, Colm Crowley, Diarmuid Linehan, Brian O’Driscoll, Brian Lombard, Denis Kiely, Dylan Collins. Subs: Cathal O’Keeffe for Jeff (10mins), Darragh O’Reilly for Sean (h/t), Fintan Linehan for James, Tommy Barrett for Eoin, and Rob O’Gorman for Barry all on 45 minutes.
