United win Cup after a thriller

-

What a week the club had with our U11s beaten in a cup final, our U13 team beaten in a cup semi-final but pride of place must go to our U15 team who won their cup final after a thrilling cup final against neighbours Ballyduff Rovers. With the fine weather last week we saw large numbers of fans turning up for these games.

A THRILLER IN LISMORE EAST CORK OIL U15 CUP FINAL Brideview Utd 2 Ballyduff Rovers 1

The large crowd of supporters from both clubs got plenty to cheer about in Lismore for this excellent cup final with very little between the teams.

United captain Joseph McDonnell had the first real effort in the fifth minute. Utd had one or two more efforts before Utd’s keeper Alex Good was called into action. Rovers took the lead on 19 minutes but Utd got back on level terms a few minutes before the break through Wall. The sides were level 1-1 at the break.

The second half was end to end with Good saving Utd in the 24th minute with a great save. Then with just five minutes remaining and managers thinking that it would go to penalties, young Dean Cronin however had other ideas when his volley from 25 yards went straight into the net to send Utd’s players and fans alike jumping for joy. The whistle went a few minutes later and yes Utd had brought off the double. Full report in WW/ EC League notes including presentation.

Utd (all played): Alex Good, Cian Murphy, Gearoid Hynes, Billy Murphy, Aidan Murphy, Danny Power, Jack Henley, Joseph McDonnell, David Wall, Ray Nugent, Adam Pratt, Ben Sheehan, Nathan Mason, Sean Murphy, Isaac Almeida, Dean Cronin. Congratulations from all in United.

HANNA’S CAFÉ, FERMOY U13 CUP SEMI-FINAL Brideview Utd 0 Kilworth Celtic 2

Another great game here between these two good footballing sides with Celtic coming out on top with two second half goals. It was a good display from our boys and they can hold their heads up high as well as the coaches Steven and Dyane. Full match report on WW/ EC League notes.

Utd (all used): Josh Mangan, Brian Murphy, Oscar Morrison, Tommy Forbes, Lee Guidea, Paul Hegarty, Barra Alian, Andy Cash, Oscar Cunningham, Ryan Whelan, Ethan King, James McDonnell, Harry Power, Dylan Kerrigan. Well done boys for a

great season. DEVELOPMENT SQUAD NEWS

Brideview Utd will have four players on the U11 development squad or so I hear. Until I get confirmation of same I will not name these boys.

We have Ben Sheehan and Isaac Almeida on the Kennedy Cup squad and they will be heading to UL Limerick the second week in June. We also have some players on the U12 and U13 development squads and we will have more on these squads going forward.

UTD GO DOWN IN THRILLER IN NISSAN MOTORS, FERMOY U11 CUP FINAL Lismore 3 Brideview Utd 1

A terrific game of football here played by the stars of tomorrow for both clubs. United started well with a great header by Donovan just over after 3 minutes. A few minutes later and Utd were in front when Donovan shot low into the net. Cunningham and Doyle both went close to increasing Utd’s lead but Lismore’s keeper denied them.

At the other end Kaulius saved well to keep Utd in front at the break. The sides were level on 31 minutes when Lismore equalised. Again a volley by Cunningham just went over. Kaulius kept Utd in the game with a terrific save in the 35th minute.

A free kick for Lismore went straight to the net to put them in front. They increased their lead in the 40th minute when they scored from close range. Utd pressed forward. Cunningham was twice denied by the post. Keniry shot wide and Doyle saw his effort go just outside the post. Marsh and Murphy were both denied by Lismore’s keeper. Soon after the final whistle sounded.

A great performance by Utd despite this defeat. Kaulius was excellent in goal. Defenders Goulding, Murphy and McCarthy played their hearts out. Cunnigham, Donovan, Marsh, Keniry and Doyle will feel unlucky not to have taken their chances. However they played well and can feel proud of the display. Coaches Georgina, Natalie and Sinead did a great job.

SYMPATHY

The club extends sympathy to the Fitzgerald family of Woodview Park on the sad passing of Pad last week. May he rest in peace. Sympathy also to the O’Brien family, Old Road on the sad passing of Denis Cooper in Roscommon. May he rest in peace.

NOTE

A great season for our schoolboys/girls club with three leagues and one cup to our names. We are now left with our U14 team who are left to carry the flag for Utd. Let’s hope they can advance to the semi-final.
