PORTUGAL TRIP

20 members of the club returned at the weekend from a trip to the Algarve where they were on a training camp to improve their golf before the club majors begin. The reports suggest that Craig Scotton was the most improved player on the trip, Pat Moore said he was happy with his progress but would have liked another round in the sunshine to sharpen up his chipping. Our captain William said the 4 rounds on championship courses and the good rest all the group had, should stand to them in the months ahead.

This week we have members taking part in the open doubles competition in Whitechurch. On Thursday 19th, the open competition at Larkspur in Cashel begins. Mitchelstown have large numbers taking part. This is very encouraging indeed, a great way for members to compete against players from other clubs of the same grade. There is a nice social side to the opens also, where friendships begin amongst the players while watching on and supporting fellow club members in their quest for success.

FRIDAY NIGHT COACHING

The third night of coaching will be this coming Friday evening at 7pm. Willie Cussen, our coach, has being doing great work with our members. Hopefully the weather will hold up for the evening as the coaching sessions have been very constructive and enjoyable.

BEGINNER TEEN TENNIS

The beginner teen tennis class for members continues this Friday. We encourage any new teenage members to take part, learn the skills of the game while meeting up with other members. It would be a great way to get started in the sport.

CLUB NIGHT

Our weekly club night continues this coming Friday night, May 20th at 8pm. It’s a sociable, casual, fun night of tennis, intended for members to meet other members and mix up to play doubles. It is open to all members. Anyone interested is encouraged to come along.

SATURDAY JUNIOR MATCHPLAY

Every Saturday during school term, there will be match play practice for juniors. This is to help the juniors understand tennis matches, scoring, court etiquette, rules etc. At 2pm, it will be for ages 5-7. At 3pm, it will be for ages 8-12. These sessions do not replace the coaching on Wednesday’s and the courts will be adult supervised. Numbers are limited, so registration is required at yourcourts.com.
