The Avondhu

Class act for Mitchelstown Golf Club

-

Our annual fundraising Club Classic returned this year with a bang after 2 years of Covid cancellation. The success of the event would almost tempt one to say it was worth the wait!

There were no losers during the 2 day event which saw favourable weather conditions, a course in superb condition, smooth organisation, happy golfers and great food. It was extremely gratifying to hear the positive and favourable comments from participating golfers (both members and non-members) as they came off the course and as they left the clubhouse.

The success of the event was due in no small part to the efforts of the organising committee and helpers (from both the men’s and ladies’ clubs), the greenkeepers/ground staff, Dolores from admin, and Jennifer and Mary from the catering side. Much work went on “behind the scenes” – thank you to all who contributed and participated. It was a fitting occasion to remember the late, great Jimmy Walsh whose Memorial Trophy was presented to the winning team by his nephew Billy Walsh.

A huge thank you must also be extended to our numerous generous sponsors and to our members who organised teams for the event. Our main sponsors were Kerrygold Park (as arranged by Annette Henebery), and our main raffle prize (much coveted) was sourced by Noelle Finn from AIB. Jerry Carey and his wife Patricia were as usual very generous in their sponsorship of our Club Classic. The support of local and national businesses is much appreciated by all associated with Mitchelstown GC and we would continue to encourage our members to support our sponsors where possible.
