Glanmire music marathon to aid Ukraine crisis

- KATIE GLAVIN

A 12 hour Music Marathon is to get underway at Glanmire Community College on June 2 in aid of the Irish Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Cork ETB School of Music, one of Ireland’s most dynamic multi-campus music schools, are holding the fundraiser which will run from 9am to 9pm in an effort to raise funds for the cause.

On Thursday, 2nd June from early morning to late evening students and staff will play various genres of music continuously for twelve hours at the local school grounds. Those present will hear everything from classical music to traditional music and anything in between.

From 4.30pm, members of the public will be welcome to attend the event as walk-ins, to wander around the various performance spaces and soak up the atmosphere.

UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE

According to Carol Daly, principal of the Cork ETB School of Music, the event is an effort to bring joy as well as raising funds to support Ukraine.

“Through this musical offering, we want to bring not just practical support for Ukraine, but to communicate some joy by doing what the students and staff do best. So, make sure you call to see us from 4.30pm on 2nd June to experience the amazing talents that this School of Music has to offer,” she said.

According to a statement from Cork ETB, as musicians, both teachers and students alike, they feel that the greatest contribution they can make is through their art and time.

“There is strength and unity in music. It is a universal language that transcends politics and violence,” a statement from Cork ETB read.

A GoFundMe page entitled ‘Cork ETB School of Music 12hrs Music Marathon’ has been set up in advance of the event where donations can be made online.
