Free open air recitals in Fermoy and Youghal as opening of BVOF approaches

-

With just one week to go until this year’s Blackwater Valley Opera Festival (BVOF), organisers are encouraging local community groups and music lovers to book their free tickets for open air lunchtime recitals taking place in Fermoy and Youghal. This is a unique opportunity to experience highlights of the festival’s classical and operatic repertoire in a less formal way, enhanced by an outdoor scenic setting.

This year’s BVOF Open Air Lunchtime Recitals in County Cork will be in Youghal Green Park on Saturday, 4th June at 12 noon, followed on Monday, 6th June in Fermoy Town Park at 12 noon.

Ireland’s Summer Opera Festival runs from May 31st to June 6th, features world-class opera, award-winning musicians, international performers, and acclaimed dance troupes who will perform in unique venues across the Blackwater Valley. While work by local artist Leon Neligan, a member of the Blackwater Valley Makers Group based in Fermoy, is being spotlighted by the Festival as his artwork was featured as the opera image art on this year’s programme and promotional material.

Other highlights of this year’s festival include the headline opera Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck with the Irish Baroque Orchestra, CoisCéim Dance Theatre and the BVOF Chorus, a special BVOF Voices of Ukraine performance, a new ‘Discover Singing’ programme, concerts in the breath-taking Dromore Yard, a James Joyce spoken recital, BVOF Voices of Ukraine with all ticket proceeds going to UNICEF dance and orchestral collaborations, free open air lunchtime performances in towns across the Blackwater Valley.

Delicious dining and hospitality at the festival includes formal dinner options and gourmet picnics by Eunice Power; chef Colin Hennessy; and lunch at The Saucy Hen, Villierstown. Taste Waterford is the new hospitality partner in 2022 for Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.

The Blackwater Valley Opera Festival is a living, breathing opera and classical music experience – made possible with the support grants from The Arts Council, Waterford City & County Council, Waterford LEADER and Faílte Ireland. The festival’s lead sponsors are Kildare Village, Marsh, AIB and the John Pollard Foundation.
