John Arnold the speaker at Fermoy Active Retirement Group

-

Fermoy Active Retirement group meeting on Wednesday next, 1st June at 2.30pm in Fermoy Youth Centre. Guest speaker on the day John Arnold, author/ historian.

Our last meeting was very well attended, the guest speaker on the day Darragh Cronin, photographer, who duly impressed the audience, choosing Singapore as his theme for his screen exhibition. Many thanks Darragh.

We were happy to welcome 2 more new members to our group. A number of our members had a most enjoyable day-trip to the beautiful medieval fishing port town of Kinsale, with its long waterfront and yacht filled harbour, brightly painted shop fronts, an abundance of art and craft galleries, little cafes and pubs to cater its many visitors.

We also visited the great historical site of Charles Fort with a breath- taking sea view. It is currently being restored under the guidance of the O.P.W., their guide William Yeats gave a very detailed account of life at the fort during the different periods of time.

On our return journey we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Vienna Woods Hotel. To add to the joviality of the evening 6 of our members, namely John OMahony, Carmel O’Connor, Liz McCarthy, Betty Cloney, Maria Coughlan and Pauline O’Flynn duly entertained us with their melodious voices, many thanks to all. A very pleasant day indeed and the weather duly obliged.
