Hurlers win on the double

-

Harbour Rovers 0-16 Clyda Rovers 0-7

Our hurlers have responded in fine style to their first defeat of the campaign with back to back wins in the space of a few days. I wasn’t at the Charleville game but it is never easy against that team so we must have played and battled well. Last Sunday we were at home against last year’s championship finalists Clyda Rovers and we emerged deserving nine point winners.

We took control early on and never really lost that grip on the game. Our defence once again worked their socks off. Special mention to Jamie Fogarty who in his first year is beginning to really settle in to the team. We hit the front immediately following the throw in, with a well taken point by Stevie Condon.

The same man struck two more points to have us three to the good after ten minutes. They replied with two points in the next ten minutes to leave the minimum between the sides. We replied with four on the trot in the next ten, 3 from Stevie and one from Emmett Sheehan who was cool under pressure, to put us five clear before they replied with a point just before half-time to leave it 0-7 to 0-3 at the break. We were getting most of the ball but needed to make it count more on the scoreboard.

We started the second well with a point from Stevie, a well taken score from Podge and a long range free from Thomas Condon. They replied with two in a row to leave five in it with ten minutes gone. Podge added his second point with another well taken score which they replied with a 65.

Our defence was still giving them a lot of problems and we held them to a point for the remaining 15 mins which is great credit to our boys.

We got back on the scoreboard with a great point from John O’Sullivan followed very quickly by another point from Stevie and John’s second of the day. We would have two more points from Stevie before they finished the scoring with a late 65.

We were well merited with the victory and the lads should take great confidence in this. They are now in a strong position in the league. Hopefully they can keep it going.
